It would be fair to say that I love most things Italian, and especially traditional woodfired pizza from the Southern regions of Italy. I had the pleasure of being invited to the opening of Society Di Catania, the new pizzeria and bar in Potts Point last December by the lovely Vittoria, one of the owners.
I have been eating their yummy pizzas for some time now as they are also based in Bondi, and they are a regular delivery meal to my home as they are the BEST delivered pizzas in Bondi Beach.
So I was very excited to see their new venue based in the old Jimmy Lik’s site on Victoria Street, and their new renovation and fit out is AMAZING. There is a beautiful bar area for Apertivi, a fantastic woodfired oven in the rear of the restaurant and amazing photography artworks hung throughout the huge space.
Well, let’s get down to the essential stuff – the food! The pizzas are just as amazing as the Bondi site, but with the new venue you have a restaurant feel and you can go there for a date or with a big group of people. At the opening, I had the opportunity to try their antipasto plate with the most divine cheeses, charcuterie, arancini, crochette di patate and eggplant parmigiana. I also got to try some pastas, a spaghetti with ragu and a beautiful linguine with prawns and tomato. This was topped off with Gamberi pizzas with a hit of chilli so I was in heaven.
Capped off with Aperol Spritz’ and Menebrea birra alla spina (on tap) all night, my hubby and I felt like we were back in Italy. My advice to my Sydney followers is to run to this restaurant, don’t walk!! You will love it as it is the perfect place for Summer dining.
Thank you to Vittoria and her lovely family for the kind invitation to the fabulous opening.
